The sacred duty of the host

Xenia (Greek: ξενία) is the ancient concept of guest-friendship — the idea that hospitality is not a transaction but a bond, and that a host's reputation rests on how a stranger is received.

Homer's epics turn on it. Zeus himself was Zeus Xenios, protector of guests. To welcome someone well — food, rest, comfort, and no questions until they were cared for — was one of the highest obligations in the Greek world.

We think that's a better starting point for short-term rentals than "checkout is at 11." Our two stays in Athens, Georgia are run on a simple rule: prepare every stay as if a friend is arriving.
